General Conference

The 178th Semiannual General Conference of the Church will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 4-5, 2008. Speakers will include the First Presidency and other General Authorities and general officers of the Church.

I really enjoyed general conference this weekend, and hope that you were able to as well! :-)

When we were in Independence, Mo earlier this year the Sister missionaries mentioned that the Visitor's Center had recently been changed to be a Temple Visitor's Center, rather than a regular Church History, or other kind of Visitor's Center. So, I am definitely looking forward to hearing more about the temple recently announced in the Kansas City area. :-)

Another interesting insight came as I was with some friends, and some of them had not watched Saturday conference. We were discussing the talk about inappropriate Sacrament meeting behavior, and one of the girls made a causal comment about how she sometimes texted to meet up with someone during church, and there was nothing wrong with that. It was a strong reminder to me of how everything that is said in conference is a commandment for us. Even though there may be other members may interpret council differently, we have to be true to what we have heard and any personal revelation we receive at the time, particularly when it is tempting to rationalize. I usually do a lot of running around (taking care of business + socializing) right before Sacrament meeting, and I definitely have room to improve.

The sin of ingratitude is something that I heard a few things this weekend. Elder Bednar's talk was just what I needed to hear in many ways as well. I am so grateful for my family, and particularly for your faithfulness to the principles of the gospel, and the adherence to the inspiration that you receive in your life!
