Blessings this week

A few things I have been particularly grateful for this last week:

  • Being at the Washington DC temple and seeing it full of people.
  • Running into friends who have been positive influences and provided support in my life.
  • Spending time with the Rogers family, particularly because a lot of my friends were out of town for the long weekend.
  • Realizing that pride can work both ways - sometimes we think we are 'above' a task, and other times we rationalize and excuse ourselves because we are going through a rough time, and we really shouldn't be expected to contribute right now.
  • Being reminded that through gratitude and service we can overcome pride.
  • Finishing the Book of Mormon. I have been listening to it on the way to work in the mornings. I have a few ideas for a new scripture study approach.
  • In going to a $1 store, I found the exact batteries I needed for my pedometer. I hadn't even really started looking other places.
  • I was able to arrange for someone to come fix my broken garbage disposal, and replace the front storm door. On my day off nonetheless!
  • I was able to reschedule the carpet cleaning until AFTER the front door had been painted (not before or during).
  • A sense of accomplishment. I had hoped to get more done Memorial Day weekend, but it worked out better this weekend, and it felt so good to finally get so much home repair stuff done!
  • I got more fun pictures from Leslie's wedding up in Maine, when I had her family over for dinner on Friday. (See Picasa)
  • Our Stake put on an Emergency Preparedness fair this weekend. We have living prophets. It is by obeying their council that we will be most prepared. See www.blessfamily.com for some ideas.
  • We had a pretty intense storm Saturday afternoon, including some hail. I am grateful for electricity and a roof over my head that doesn't leak.
  • I talked to two friends this weekend who feel abandoned by their family. I am SO grateful for my family. It's sometimes tempting to focus on what I don't have, but I am so grateful for a fabulous immediate family, extended families, roommates and friends. I try not to ask for too much, but I know they will help or serve as needed. I hope they feel that way about me as well.
  • Games. We played Cranium on Sunday. FYI - Blue is my favorite category!
  • Music. Sunday I went to a bell choir concert. I love music.
