My family in the Midwest agreed to meet up with me while I was in Kansas City. It was so good to see the Arkansas Johansons (Matt, Mary, Allison, Michelle, Isabelle) who drove 3 ½ hours north and the Iowa Johansons (Adam, Elizabeth, Megan) who drove 3 ½ hours south. Elizabeth recently announced that they are expecting, so that’s exciting!
I was a little stressed about how accommodations would work out. I had reservations at a place that had both a pool and a kitchen, but the pool wasn’t open, and it turns out that they didn’t have any ajoining rooms or King size beds. Thankfully everything seemed to work out okay. I ended up going with a two bedroom suite. The pool was taken care of and back open by Friday evening, and Allison really didn’t mind sleeping in the closet!
Friday we had pizza, played at the pool, and played games once the kids went to bed. Saturday we went downtown and made our own crafts at Kalidiscope and toured the Hallmark visitor’s center. I think the girls really enjoyed it. At the Hallmark museum I was surprised how Allison and Michelle actually seemed old enough to be excited about getting a stamp at each location. They were very excited to see how they make bows! We had some Kansas City BBQ for lunch, and we ended up smelling like smoke the rest of the day. (But the good kind of smoke!) In the afternoon we went to a museum that was listed in the Kansas City Guide in the section for things for kids to do. It turned out to be a regular art museum, with no hands on stuff, so we just enjoyed the outside. It turned out to be really fun as the kids flew kites, and we played in the grass. Saturday night we played some Wii and other games. Sunday we got packed up. We went to the LDS Visitor’s center in Independence, Mo. We attended church, and then had a picnic together before the Arkansas Johansons left. I went to Libery Jail with Adam, Elizabeth, and Megan before they took me to the airport that night.

The little girls are all growing up so fast. Mary has a system with the twin’s hair and it was nice to be able to tell the two cuties apart. Allison starts with the letter A, and Allison’s hair often has one ponytail (with a point on the top). Michelle can often be found with her hair in two ponytails – the letter M has two bumps on it! Megan loves her alphabet, and recited it often for us. The girls all warmed up pretty quickly, but Isabelle still loves her Mom and Dad the best. She does like to make eye contact and smile for people though!

What a fun trip! I had forgotten about Allison sleeping in the closet - thanks for the reminder, still makes me laugh! Have any of your friends reading your blog or looking at your pictures commented on how your nieces look so much like you? :)
