When leaving work the other day, a coworker saw me getting into my car. My license plate is a Virginia lighthouse plate, that says LDSGAL. I had an opportunity to talk to him at work, and he asked if I was LDS. He mentioned that he was raised RLDS, and he had been wondering whose car that was. I honestly don’t think I have met anyone else who was RLDS, so that was interesting, but it was particularly interesting timing, because I had just been to Independence, Mo, where that church is headquartered.
The RLDS church is now known as the Community of Christ. I got to hear some about some similarities and differences with the RLDS/Community of Christ. They are the second largest group of what Wikipedia calls the “Latter-Day Saint Movement.” At the family trip we were talking about the number of other LDS groups. The fundlementalists have gotten some press lately, and it’s interesting to read about all the other groups. I found an inventory of sects of the Latter-Day Saint movement on Wikipedia, and would guess that it’s decently accurate.
