Local (Hawaiian) Cuisine

How many of you have seen “50 First Dates”, with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore? Here’s the Hukliau Café that many say was the inspiration for the restaurant in the movie. We didn’t actually eat there, so I can’t tell you about the food, but it did look like a fun little place. They even had a poster of the movie hung up inside.
During our visit it was fun to try the fresh coconut and pineapple from the side of the road.

Scott, here’s the mango I ate “just for you!”

Did you know that most of the sweet potatoes in Hawaii are purple inside? That was kind of fun.

Shaved Ice is a local tradition. It’s like a snow cone, but you can also add other fun stuff, like ice cream and sweetened condensed milk.
